[Review] – The Fourth Whore

By EV Knight

Eerie drawing of a masked woman, with light beaming up from her eyes.

This book was recently released on March 25th.

EV Knight comes out swinging in her debut novel from Raw Dog Screaming Press.

This is a blood soaked, apocalyptic, splatterpunky revenge tale that is epic in scope. The book borrows from folklore in order to portray the end of the world.  It actually reminded me a little of one of my favorite short stories, “Haceldama” by Gary Braunbeck, in which a detective on a murder investigation finds himself in the middle of a vengeful god and the apocalypse. Find it!

Without giving too much away, the main character, Kenzi, finds herself down on her luck and caught in the middle of a war between gods.  Now it’s up to you to read it and find out where the blood comes from (everywhere), and how much there is (a lot).

Honestly, the book was a bit of a struggle for me.  Knight writes concise chapters, which I normally appreciate, but paired with the rotating plotlines, it had a disorienting effect on me.  Also, I found the feminism angle to be somewhat heavy handed.  Don’t get me wrong, the message is fine.  I just felt that I was reminded of it too blatantly and too often.  Nevertheless, I was grateful for Knight’s no-holds-barred approach to this story.
